He completed his graduate work at the Gregorian University in Rome, where he received a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology in 1969. On May 13, 1992, he was named Bishop of the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska, where he has become well known for his unwavering defense of the Faith.
